Neil writes this today about his group and their success…

Crossed over to the West Coast two days ago and met up with two very confiding Keas near Arthur’s Pass. Had the first really good close views of Brown Creeper and South Island Tomtit. Had a full turn out for a GS kiwi walk along the Arthurs Pass Walking track. All 9 of us heard a female calling quite close at about 10.20pm so heading home happy to know that the kiwi were really there.

Met up with Ian at Okarito and had lunch – and a NZ Falcon flyover right in front of Ian’s house – neat.

Evening with Mike gave us fantastic close up views (less than 1 metre) of a male Okarito Kiwi coming out of his burrow, sniffing the air and probing the ground a few times before heading off into the forest – very special.
