Another 21-day tour started with Phil Hammond leading on Tuesday, and so they are now on Day 4. Sounds like things are going really well for them also, as they head to Tiritiri Matangi today.
They had excellent views of North Island brown kiwi on the first night, and as well as fairy tern, and the usual northern shorebirds.
Another epic Hauraki Gulf pelagic, again with great numbers of NZ storm-petrels, and a Wilson’s storm-petrel putting in an appearance ‘again’ – could it be the same bird as for Neil’s group or are they still passing through on their way south? Imagine three species of storm-petrel in one binocular view! Good numbers of little shearwaters, plus black petrel and all the usual suspects. A few of the group even had their FIRST albatross on the trip!!
Keep up the great work Phil and have a great night on Tiritiri Matangi tonight!
