Yellow-nosed albatross

25/07/06 Yellow-nosed albatross seen off Whitianga, Coromandel Peninsula

In recent years this species has been pretty hard to come by in New Zealand – strange considering their abundance just across the Tasman. This bird was seen and photographed by Andy Kerr of Stingray Charters, about 3 nautical miles north of the Alderman Islands, near Whitianga, Coromandel Peninsula. We use Andy during our Whitianga pelagic trips when we head out to see Pycroft’s petrels.
